PSALM 90 | SUNDAY MORNING MEDITATION

"Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations." Psalm 90

This morning at River West we are looking at Psalm 90. I get to lead a quick word with our worship team before the service begins. Here's a few quick thoughts on this passage.

Refuge in the Wilderness

The weight of this passage begins with some historical context. This Psalm was originally spoken by Moses as he lead God's people through the wilderness.

I've been walking through a few Exodus passages on abrahambates.com and let me tell you: the wilderness was an interesting place. It was both tremendously maturing and terrifyingly unsettling.

WHAT DOES GOD WANT? | Colossians 1:9-10

"And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God."
Colossians 1:9-10

What does God want?

a serious list of things

Paul is praying for a very serious list of things. He's praying for a list to show up and be evident in your Christian life. He says that you are to:
  • walk in a manner worthy of the Lord,
  • fully please him,
  • bear fruit in every good work,
  • increase in the knowledge of God.
That's quite a the list of what it means to live the Christian life. If we only did that, we'd be set, right?

Sunday Morning Meditation | April 29th

"Oh taste and see that the Lord is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!" Psalm 34:8

We were sitting at the breakfast table eating waffles and berries. I read this passage to the whole family. We discussed what it's like to taste God. We know what it's like to taste what we are eating because we can us our taste buds to know how good waffles, syrup, and berries taste. Our taste bud for God is our heart; and our identity is what is satisfied.

We take refuge in God because he quenches our deepest thirst. We take refuge in God because he satisfies our hunger like nothing else can. We take refuge in God because it's his being that makes all things right.

Where do you hunger? What do you long for? How is God satisfying your identity, your deepest longing?
